Birth of A Nation
D.W. Griffith

From Slavery to Freedom

Though the movie, Birth of a Nation was made as a silent film, it spoke volumes in this country and around the world.  It was a proponent of slavery out of ignorance.  So was this country a proponent of ignorance [slavery] and in many cases it still is.  However, Martin Luther King had a big role in changing the thinking of the American people by repeating these "set free" words, Free at last. Free at last.  Thank God Almighty we are free at last!

We all need to think on those words, then ask ourselves, Am I free at last?  Some of us are enslaved by every day fears and anxieties.  We are chained to unseemly jobs and relationships. We are tied down to credit card payments, house payments, bills, relationships.  We seem to be shackled on every side.  We have clutter all around us.  We even have a "junk drawer" [usually in our kitchen], which is part of our slavery.  We think if we throw away, whatever it is we do not want to see in that drawer, that it will go away.  Nothing will ever just "go away."  We must do something to get rid of what we are enslaved to.  Changing your thinking is one way to eliminate the waste of slavery in your life and becoming totally set free.  Remember, Jesus has come to set us free.

Ex 20:2  I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.

Whatever a man is not willing to change, he is a slave to.  Expect a change to occur in your life today.  After all, change can only make you grow stronger in something you've never attempted to do.  Take a risk within the goals of your belief system.  Dare to do things you have always desired to do or to, Go where no one has gone before.  Maybe you are held back because of your past or the past of your family tree.  Maybe you think because your family was a certain way or had a specific ailment; you must live that way also.

Set yourself free from the past.  Don't allow your past to dictate your future.  Grab a hold of what life has in store for you and go after it.  After all, it is YOUR life, no one else's.

When you pull your bow back, aim your arrow at the moon.  If you miss it today, you will hit a star, that's not a bad aim.  However, never forget, tomorrow is another day.

Don't beat yourself up; there are enough people who will do that for you.
